Depending on whether you’re a glass half full or half empty kind of person, having normal skin can feel like a blessing or a curse. Your pores are minimal sized, you don’t struggle with skin that’s excessively oily or excessively dry, your skin feels comfortable without too much tightness or irritation, you regularly receive compliments on your generally breakout-free skin… Ah, who are we kidding, we’d have to be delusional to say that having normal skin is anything but a blessing. If you have normal skin, you’re blessed with sebaceous glands that run a tight ship - they don’t go into overdrive or underdrive. Caring for your skin doesn’t feel like a constant battle. In fact, other than advise you to cleanse, tone, and moisturise daily, you’re pretty much set.

All jokes aside, while caring for normal skin is usually easy, that doesn’t equate to you resting on your laurels. Good genes can only take you so far, and you’ll still need to put in the work to keep your skin young, healthy and radiant. The best way to do that is to invest in a good skincare regime that keeps skin thoroughly cleansed, toned, and hydrated. A good skincare regimen is key to creating an optimal environment to address a multitude of skincare concerns. You’ll often find that once you establish a solid skincare routine, the results will leave you wondering why you’ve been missing out all this time.

Here’s a quick list of must-dos when it comes to caring for your skin:

Step 1: Cleanse your face in the morning before applying any skincare product. At night, double cleanse. Simply use the same cleanser then rinse and repeat.

A thorough face cleansing is the cornerstone of any good skincare routine. You should always begin each new day with a clean slate, and your skin is no exception. A simple cleanse in the morning with a cleanser gives you a fresh start and a clean canvas to layer on your skincare products. At night, we recommend a double-cleanse - well worth the time taken, a double-cleanse ensures every single impurity is lifted from your pores. Simply use the same cleanser you use in the morning, and rinse and repeat.

Step 2: Tone your face to rebalance your skin’s natural pH.

Face washes are typically more alkaline in nature, whereas your skin mantle is slightly more acidic, and using a toner will help to rebalance your pH level after cleansing your face. As with everything, good things take time. While your skin is capable of resetting its own pH balance, it will take about half an hour to do so. To speed things up a notch, a toner is a quick easy solution to rebalancing your skin’s pH. A skin pH level of 4.5 - 5.5 is scientifically proven to be the optimum condition for skin to effectively fend off acne-causing bacteria and rejuvenate itself. What’s more, toners also work to remove remaining residue left on your skin.

We’ve let the science speak for itself and it shouldn’t take you too long to do the math and realise that a good toner is worth investing in. Good toners like our Molecular Saviour Toner Mist will help to rebalance your skin’s pH levels while also sending your skin a healthy dose of antioxidants and probiotics that reduce redness, irritation and blemishes.

Step 3: Apply eye cream to eye area to prevent visible signs of aging.

While we’ve managed to put a man on the moon, we’ve yet to discover the formula for a true Elixir of Youth, and even those of you blessed with normal skin are unable to reverse the process of aging. This is where the eye cream steps in. The delicate area under our eyes is often the first to betray any signs of aging, and to keep those fine lines and sagging at bay, we recommend keeping your eye area well hydrated with a good eye cream.

You’re probably now wondering when this seemingly never-ending list will come to an end, and you’ll probably be delighted to know that we’re on to the final step.

Step 4: The last step is to moisturise and seal in all the ingredients into your skin.

We’re all about the fuss-free and while attaining good skin requires you to put in work, we believe that it shouldn’t be so tiresome as to put you off completely. That’s why we created our 1A All-Day and 1A Overnight Masks.

Our leave-on masks are multi-tasking and designed to work like supercharged moisturisers that provide your skin with all the nutrients it needs to be happy and healthy. Our masks are also gentle enough to be applied around the eye area, doubling up as an eye cream - great news for the time-conscious multi-hyphenate.

In the day, try using products like our 1A All-Day Mask, which hydrates and protects. Not only does it form a breathable anti-pollution shield that repels external impurities, it also works to strengthen the skin’s delicate barrier. You can also use it over your eyes to de-puff and erase fatigue. Make sure to apply SPF after to put the finishing touch on your routine.

At night, after cleansing and toning, try using our 1A Overnight Mask (use on your eyes, lips and cuticles too). It works to nourish and repair your skin while you sleep; reducing blemishes by 67.2% in 28 days.

While the Fountain of Youth may be more fiction than fact, a good skincare regime is a solid truth that can withstand the test of time. We may not have an Elixir of Youth but following the steps above does come pretty close.

Here’s to happier skin and putting your best face forward!
