Cheatsheet: How to Hack Your AM Skincare Routine

As promised in our previous guide on evening skincare routines, here’s your cheat sheet for a fuss-free morning skincare routine.

While your evening skincare ritual can afford to be a full blown cocktail party, for those of us facing a ticking clock in the morning, our morning skincare routine could use some paring down.

At times like these, thank goodness for multi-tasking, multi-functional products.

With the right products, putting your best face forward each day can work out to be more of a charm than a chore.

Without further ado, here’s our four-step breakdown to hacking your AM skincare routine.

Step 1: Cleansing your face

And we don’t just mean splashing some water in the general direction of your face.

So break out your cleanser and get down to work.

This step is crucial to starting off your AM skincare routine on a good note.

Here's why.

Your body’s metabolic processes continue to work while you sleep and this produces toxins that are released from your skin.

If not washed off, these toxins interact with the sun’s UV rays to form free radicals which accelerate the skin aging process.

A simple once-over cleanse will do the trick. We recommend sulfate-free cleansers which are gentle on the skin and non-drying.

Step 2: Toning your face

Like cleansing, toning remains on our mainstay list, and with good reason.

Remember all that stuff you learnt in Chemistry class about acids and alkalis?

Well, without sounding too much like a science lesson, basically, your skin’s optimal pH is more acidic (4.0 - 5.5), while facial cleansers are more alkaline.

As such, cleansing temporarily upsets your skin’s naturally acidic pH balance.

Minor havoc ensues when your skin’s optimal balance is upset – good acne-fighting bacteria are diminished, skin absorption of skincare products decreases…you get the drift.

So, to save yourself all that doom and gloom, remember to tone your face. A gentle, non-alcoholic toner is all you need to save the day, one like our Molecular Saviour™ Toner Mist.

Apart from restoring your skin’s pH to its optimum balance, our Molecular Saviour™ Toner Mist also targets common skincare concerns such as blemishes, redness, and skin dryness.

With its unique blend of probiotics and antioxidants such as Lactobacillus Ferment and Acai Berry, it works to heal, soothe, and refresh your skin.

This multi-tasking formula is great for mornings when you find yourself pressed for time but in need of some quick relief.

All that frantic stirring and mixing of your various serums and essences will soon be a thing of the past.

Simply keep calm and mist face.

Step 3: Moisturising

Think of your moisturiser as the icing on the cake, sealing in all the goodness you’ve layered onto your skin.

Moisturisers are typically formulated with particles that are too large to be absorbed into the skin.

This works to create a protective barrier on your skin and emulsify the top layer of your dermis.

With the right product, this step is the step to end all steps.

In place of a standard facial moisturiser, try using multi-tasking products such as our 1A™ All-Day Mask to round off your fuss-free morning routine with an extra umph!

The world’s first leave-on day treatment mask, our 1A™ All-Day Mask not only hydrates, but also protects, forming a breathable barrier on your skin, shielding your skin from harmful pollutants in the atmosphere. Also gentle enough to be applied as an eye cream, this product cuts time but not efficacy, perfect for the typical morning rush.

Step 4: Applying SPF

As always, the golden rule in skincare is to always apply SPF before stepping out.

SPF should always be the last product you apply on your face.

If you wear makeup, apply your SPF first, then put on your makeup.

Prevention is better than cure and wearing SPF keeps the harmful effects of premature aging such as wrinkles, fine lines, and pigmentation at bay.

Saving time in the morning doesn’t necessarily equate to scrimping on the attention paid to your skin.

It’s all about choosing products that work for you and not the other way around.

Here’s to happy skin!
