4 Things You Can Do Now to Get Clearer Skin

It's not too late to start making those New Year's Resolutions. If 'Change your skin, change your life' resonates with you on a deeper level, read on to find out the four things you can do to get your glow on this 2017.

New Year’s Resolution #1: Upgrade my cleanser

Push 'Upgrading my cleanser' to the top of your list when making skincare resolutions this new year. When it comes to choosing cleansers, ‘foaming’ is one taboo word we shouldn’t be seeing – not on the back of the bottle and certainly not on your bathroom shelf.

Foaming cleansers typically involve the use of surfactants which turn your skin into an alkaline breeding ground for acne-causing bacteria.

So cut through the fluff of those soap suds, and go for sulfate-free formulas that gently cleanse the skin of makeup, sunscreen and pollution, without upsetting your skin’s naturally acidic pH.

Oily and acne-prone skins can opt for gel-based formulas like Tammy Fender's Purifying Cleansing Gel.

Dry and sensitive skin types can go for gentle cleansing creams like Sukin's Cream Cleanser.

For those with dull skin, cleansers that contain probiotics like Oskia's Renaissance Cleansing Gel, will help to remove dead skin cells to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion.

New Year’s Resolution #2: Invest in a toner

If your toner smells more of the celebratory alcohol you drink to usher in the New Year, it’s probably time to bin it. Alcohol-based toners tend to dry out the epidermis and merely give the illusion of tightening your pores. In reality, they strip your skin of moisture, forcing your sebaceous glands into overdrive as they produce more oil to compensate.

Instead, treat your skin to probiotic toners like Allies of Skin Molecular Saviour™ Toner Mist.

Spritzing this in the morning, evening and any time your skin needs a quick pick-me-up will help reset skin pH and maintain moisture levels, reduce acne-causing bacteria, and soothe inflammation. The protective antioxidants and anti-inflammatories in this Toner Mist also aid in boosting your skin’s environmental defenses.

New Year’s Resolution #3: Moisturise. Diligently.

This New Year’s Eve, make it a point to share that special moment and every moment after with your moisturiser.

Regardless of your skin type, when it comes to skin dehydration – we’re all in it together. Air-conditioning, harsh sunlight and late nights spent working and partying hard drain your skin of moisture leading to chronic inflammation and premature wrinkling.

So get your moisturising game on with moisturising creams like Allies of Skin 1A™ All-Day Mask. Rich in antioxidants and hyaluronic acid, this potent formula can be used daily, day and night to provide round the clock hydration and protection for your skin.

New Year’s Resolution #4: Wear sunscreen.

If all your other new year’s resolutions fall apart, let this be the one resolution you resolve to keep. While pigmentation and wrinkling due to unprotected sun exposure don’t appear overnight, like that one unwelcome guest you weren’t expecting to show up at your New Year’s Eve party, those dark spots and fine lines will come back to haunt you.

To truly fend off those spots and wrinkles, daily sun protection in the form of broad spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen is a must.

So to avoid spending New Year’s Eve 30 years from now, lamenting over your dark spots and wrinkles, save yourself the heartache and start applying sunscreen now.

This new year, step up and switch up your skincare routine, your skin will thank you for it.

Out with the old, in with the new, we say.
